Your role

Want to help shape the future of AI in pathology? Bigpicture is seeking a highly strategic and driven Transition Leader to guide the transformation of the Bigpicture initiative into an independent, sustainable organization.

Building on the outcomes of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) Bigpicture project, you will play a pivotal role in shaping its long-term future, ensuring continued impact in digital pathology and AI-driven healthcare. You'll drive strategy, build the network, and secure the partnerships and funding that will keep the platform alive and thriving.

This role is active during the final phase of the funded project, with the intention to remain active in a leadership position in the first phase post-funding. It requires a strategic, connective, and results-oriented approach to secure stakeholder buy-in, establish sustainable funding, and develop an appropriate governance structure, with the goal of realizing Bigpicture's long-term vision and impact.

Tasks and responsibilities

As Transition Leader, you will act as the central driving force behing Bigpicture's transition to a sustainable organisation with the support of the transition task force. Your responsibilities include:

  • Stakeholder engagement — Build and maintain buy-in from research institutions, hospitals, pharma, and government. Turn that support into concrete contributions: funding, governance roles, active participation.
  • Funding & growth — Identify and develop public and private funding opportunities and sustainable revenue streams.
  • Strategic positioning — Monitor relevant developments (legislation, technology, market trends) and position Bigpicture as a catalyst for AI innovation in digital pathology. Alignment with Platform Operations: Translate stakeholder needs into strategic choices for the future organization, in collaboration with the transition team.
  • Transition & governance — Lead the transition team and co-design a governance structure that fits Bigpicture's ambitions and stakeholder needs.

Your workplace

Coordinated by Radboudumc's Computational Pathology Group, the project is now entering its final and most critical phase: transitioning from a funded consortium into a lasting, independent organization.

You will be based in Nijmegen, working closely with the project coordinator and the head of the Pathology department who is also Work Package 6 (Sustainability) lead. Alongside that, you will collaborate online with colleagues across 42 partner organizations throughout Europe.
